Hyde Park’s $500m Bellefield development to highlight tourism, agriculture

A $500 million Hyde Park development in the works for nearly two years will take its first tangible steps Friday.
That’s when ground will break on what developers plan to make into a walkable community featuring homes, hotels and retail.
The project, Bellefield at Historic Hyde Park, will highlight the region’s agricultural and tourism attractions, developers say.
“We want the region to be the Napa Valley of New York, and we hope this will be the epicenter,” said Thomas Mulroy, chief executive officer of T-Rex Capital Group.
Bellefield covers 344 acres across from The Culinary Institute of America, spanning the area from W. Dorsey Lane to St. Andrew Rd.
The first phase will include constructing a 133-room boutique hotel, and creating infrastructure for future development.
Town Supervisor Aileen Rohr said the project would be a boon for the town and regional tourism.
